Problem
Most French press on the market can brew a great cup of coffee but all suffer from the same problem: they are difficult to clean. There is no good way to scoop used coffee grounds into the trash, and your drain will clog if you rinse them into the sink. I set out to design an elegant and easy to clean French press.
Sketch Ideation
Paper Prototype
I constructed a paper model of the French press in order to experiment with handle angles and determine which would be the most comfortable and usable.
The Fix
A detachable bottom allows the coffee grounds to be removed easily.
Final Design
A ceramic body keeps coffee warmer than glass alternatives, while the removable bottom allows for quick and easy cleaning. The ergonomically designed handle allows for a satisfying user experience and simple pour.
